The Extra Mile
I like to go the extra mile for my clients and pushing the absolute limit to helping them achieve their financial goals. Below are a few of the crazy things I have done over the years and if you think I am crazy for running a 100Km’s then you will be happy to know that I am willing to do the same for you (in terms of effort) to make sure you get your business where it deserves to be.
I have always loved sport and played competitive rugby and soccer as a youngster. My Brother got into long distance running and roped me in on some of his training runs. The biggest achievement in endurance running in South Africa was and probably still is, is the Comrades Marathon. So it did not take long to decide that was our main goal. Within 6 months were at the starting line. I managed to do the comrades twice, both were up runs and the race is over 90km. From memory it took me around 9hr 30 min to complete and trust me I was happy to cross the line!
Putting my best effort to the task
Moving to Australia in 2000 meant new endurance/adventure challenges. I did many of the city to surf runs as well as the Sydney marathon numerous times. I also got involved in the whole obstacle course races and had a lot of fun doing so. I did a few of the Tough Mudder races, which involves believe it or not being electrocuted! Yes electrocuted. Don’t ask!!!
From there I got introduced to Trail running and quickly worked out that the pinnacle race in Australia was the North Face 100km. The North Face 100 is an annual 100km ultra-marathon trail running event located in the World Heritage listed Blue Mountains National Park of Australia. It has been held since 2008 and has grown to become one of the most talked about endurance events of its kind.
Trust me when I say this was the hardest thing I had ever done. I had torn my Achilles early on in the year which meant I only managed 100km of training for the event over the whole year. Nonetheless I decided to give it a go. My knee played up at 11km in and I was on struggle street from then until the end. It took me about 18 hours to negotiate the 100km run through the bush, crossing rivers, pitch darkness and near freezing temp. Don’t get me wrong though, I LOVED the event and suggest if running is your thing, try get it done. You will hold no regrets!
Continuing the journey with BellFIN Clients
Outside of running I love adventure. I got involved in dirt bike riding which I love but found that with 3 kids got a bit too much. Still with a love of bikes I replaced the dirt bike with an adventure/road type motorbike which offers me the best of both worlds. The bike allows me to go on the odd off-road adventure but also accompany my wife on some road trips up or down the coast.
I hope you enjoyed a slice of my story as a person outside of the finance world. I appreciate each and every one of my clients and love listening to their journey and what makes them tick and enjoy life. I look forward to working with you in the future and continuing this journey with my current clients.
